Free screening of a documentary about the peaceful Civil Rights protest in Danville on June 10, 1963, which was met with violence by police and became known as Bloody Monday. A panel discussion with protest participants will follow.
D+80:Virginians in the Normandy Invasion
Opening June 6 at the Virginia War Memorial, Richmond
A major new exhibit tells the stories of men and women from the Commonwealth who participated in the landings at Normandy and the preparations. Opening on the 80th anniversary of D-Day and open through summer 2025. FREE.
Maymont Summer Kickoff Festival
June 7 to 8 on the Carriage House Lawn at Maymont, Richmond
Hometown favorite performers in a variety of styles – including Full Moon Fever, Three Sheets to the Wind, Fiesta del Sol, Latin Ballet of Virginia, Shera Shi, Weekend Plans, Bio Ritmo, and Justin Golden and the Devil’s Coattails. Bring chairs, blankets, and water, learn from diverse cultural activities, and purchase craft beer or cider, wine, and food from vendors.
The Henrico Master Gardener Association Annual Spring Plant Sale and Pollinator Festival
June 8, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Recreation Center at Deep Run Park, Henrico
Master Gardeners will present displays about native and invasive plants, pollinators, and insects and sell plants from their gardens, floral arrangements, and gently used gardening items, alongside educational displays, presentations, music, and a food truck. FREE.
Ardent’s 10th Anniversary Block Party
June 8, noon to 8 p.m., at Ardent Craft Ales, Richmond
The veteran Richmond craft brewery celebrates its birthday with a party on Leigh Street, featuring its own beers as well as 20+ guest taps (more beer, plus cider, mead, and wine), alongside live music and food trucks.
