Designer House Bare Bones Tour
Aug. 3, 5 to 7 p.m., at the Taylor Estate, Richmond
Designers will soon swoop into this grand Monument Avenue home, putting their talented touches throughout. As part of the Richmond Symphony League’s major fundraiser, the redesigned home will be open for tours Sept. 11 to Oct. 9. Tonight, you can tour all of the rooms before the designers work their magic. Plus have a snack, maybe a beverage or two and enjoy the evening.
Richmond Music Week, with 804 Day and HearRVA’s Music Mixer and more
Aug. 4 to 11, throughout Richmond
Richmond Music Week. Events at the city’s many live music venues are part of this week-long celebration of Richmond, Virginia’s music scene.
- 804 Day: Richmond’s Biggest Block Party. Three stages host 17 local performers, tipping a hat to the region’s area code. Musicians represent a variety of genre, from folk and soul to Latin and indie-rock to jazz and hip-hop. Plus vendors, food and beer trucks, kids’ activities, and more. Aug. 4, 4 to 9 p.m., in Shockoe Bottom, Richmond.
- HearRVA’s Music Mixer. HearRVA hosts its second annual fundraiser. Supporting local musicians, community groups, and vendors who promote music careers. Music, raffle prizes, games, and more. Aug. 5, 7 to 11 p.m., at Gallery5, Richmond.
- Throughout the week, live music venues will host performers from different genres, at the National, Maymont, and the Dominion Energy Center, The Camel, Black Iris, and Get Tight Lounge. The week also highlights local record stores, record labels, and recording studios along with surprise pop-up events. Events and dates announced on Richmond Music Week’s social media accounts.

BrewHaHa Beer Festival
Aug. 5, 6 p.m., at the Virginia Museum of History & Culture, Richmond
Kick off Virginia Craft Beer Month with this annual festival from the VMHC, presenting beer, cider, and mead from Virginia breweries. Plus live music, food trucks, and museum admission. Breweries include Bold Mariner, Caiseal, Momac, Oozlefinch, and more.
Illumination Series: Hidden in Plain Site
Aug. 9, 6 to 8 p.m., at the Poe Museum, Richmond
HiPS (Hidden in Plain Site) is a VR exploration of easy-to-overlook sites around Richmond. Founders Dontrese Brown and Dean Browell share their founding story and how they use continue to tell the story of the Black experience in history and how they use technology to change the future of cultural education.
Happy anniversary, Ashland Theatre!
August 10 at The Ashland Theatre, Ashland
To mark the anniversary of its opening on Aug. 10, 1948, the theater hosts an open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., a screening of 1948 Looney Tunes cartoon shorts at 1 p.m., a showing of John Wayne’s 1948 “Red River” at 7 p.m. With 75 cent tickets and popcorn. The celebration will continue throughout the year with showings of more 1948 movies.
