“SOUND OF THE GUNS” World Premiere
June 22 to July 14 at Firehouse Theatre, Richmond
Based on writer/composer/performer Jim O’Ferrell’s personal experiences, the story encompasses two long days in a soldier’s life, in 2006 in the Iraq War and 2016 as a veteran. The performance includes four actors backed by rock music from The J.O.B., featuring songs that O’Ferrell wrote about his years as a soldier and a veteran. Ten performances.
Hill of Heroes
June 23, volunteers plant flags from 8 to 11 a.m., followed by a celebration from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Virginia War Memorial, Richmond
The commemoration event features 12,000 flags to honor the nearly 12,000 Virginia men and women who sacrificed their lives in service to the nation. A community celebration includes military vehicle displays, kids’ activities, live music, food trucks, and more.

Sidewalk sales, art exhibits, live music, and outdoor dining, highlighting the area’s jewelers, painters, designers, entertainers, chefs, farmers, and musicians.
