Three professional historians – Paige Newman of Virginia Museum of History & Culture, Joe Rizzo of Wilton House Museum, and Drew Gruber of Civil War Trails – tell tales of Virginia’s most bizarre, outrageous, and intense historic rivalries. FREE – craft beer and Auntie Ning’s food available for sale.
Hanover Tomato Festival
July 14, 5 to 9 p.m., and July 15, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Pole Green Park, Mechanicsville
Hanover’s soil nurtures possibly the best tomatoes anywhere! Honor the county’s famous fruit at this annual event, welcoming locals and visitors since 1978. Enjoy a tomato-tasting plate or a food vendor’s tomato dish. Browse agricultural and craft vendors. On Friday, grab a beer and dance to live music from En’Novation Band.
“Head Over Heels: The Musical”
July 14 to Aug. 26 at Robert B. Moss Theatre, Richmond
Richmond Triangle Players present a hilarious love story set to the music of the 1980s band, The Go-Go’s, with songs like “We Got the Beat,” “Our Lips Are Sealed,” “Vacation,” Belinda Carlisle’s “Heaven is a Place on Earth,” and “Mad About You.” The story is centered on a royal family on a mission to save their kingdom.
Trains, Trucks, Tractors: Titans of Transportation
July 15 and 16, 22 and 23, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, at Keystone Truck & Tractor Museum, Colonial Heights
Feel like a kid again – or grab a kid to tote along – and take in large model train layouts from the Richmond Freelance & Prototype Model Railroaders. Also wander past Sailor Bob’s TV show train set and several hundred vintage tractors, trucks, cars, tools, toys, and signs that reside at the museum.
Cadence Youth Cabaret
July 18, 7:30 p.m., at Perkinson Center, Chester
Cadence youth present top Broadway hits. Solos, duets, and group numbers, music, dance, and theatrical artistry. FREE, but registration required.
