Model Railroad Show

Nov. 24 to 26 at the Science Museum of Virginia, Richmond

Feel like a kid – or take a kid along – for the annual display of model trains in elaborate displays. Scaled locomotives and their cars ride through intricate landscapes and cities. The weekend event also features a blacksmith at work, steam engine demos, hands-on train-themed activities, and two related films: “The Polar Express” and digitized clips from four N&W films made between 1936 to 1950. Nov. 24 to Dec. 31 at the November Theatre, Richmond

“Golden Girls” meets “Designing Women” as a group of friends are thrown into a new endeavor, supporting their small-town Christmas pageant. Supported by Christmas tunes and country and western ditties.

Thanksgiving Food and Drink Traditions of Early Virginia

Nov. 25, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Henricus Historical Park, Chester

This event will demonstrate – not just talk about – the old and new traditions of how English people mixed giving thanks for a successful harvest with the bounty of Virginia. See how the English were influenced by other cultures and places and how interactions with the Powhatan Indians wove a new diet into their experiences.

Christmas at the Hippodrome

Nov. 28, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., at the Hippodrome, Richmond

Local musicians join to throw a holiday party – Rodney Stith, Weldon Hill, Saint Samuel, Tin Can Fish Band, Susan Greenbaum and more – with lots of live holiday music – both classics and originals – and a new companion CD. A portion of the holiday CD and ticket sales will be donated to Feed More, with food donation box, too.
