Model Railroad Show
Nov. 24 to 26 at the Science Museum of Virginia, Richmond
Feel like a kid – or take a kid along – for the annual display of model trains in elaborate displays. Scaled locomotives and their cars ride through intricate landscapes and cities. The weekend event also features a blacksmith at work, steam engine demos, hands-on train-themed activities, and two related films: “The Polar Express” and digitized clips from four N&W films made between 1936 to 1950. Advance purchase recommended.
“The Silver Belles”
Nov. 24 to Dec. 31 at the November Theatre, Richmond
“Golden Girls” meets “Designing Women” as a group of friends are thrown into a new endeavor, supporting their small-town Christmas pageant. Supported by Christmas tunes and country and western ditties.
“Ye Corne Beer and Roasted Deer”:
Thanksgiving Food and Drink Traditions of Early Virginia
Nov. 25, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Henricus Historical Park, Chester
This event will demonstrate – not just talk about – the old and new traditions of how English people mixed giving thanks for a successful harvest with the bounty of Virginia. See how the English were influenced by other cultures and places and how interactions with the Powhatan Indians wove a new diet into their experiences.
