Patrick Henry’s Ride for Liberty
March 15, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Scotchtown, Beaverdam
In March of 1775 at his Hanover home of Scotchtown in Hanover, Patrick Henry was contemplating the speech he would deliver to the Virginia Convention at St. John’s Church. For the 250th anniversary of this occasion, experience interactive vignettes with living historians as we examine what liberty meant to the people of the 18th century in Hanover County, with Henry, family members, and Scotchtown’s enslaved individuals. Featuring a special panel discussion at noon with Patrick Henry, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and James Lafayette, and a re-creation of Henry riding his horse to Richmond.
Cirque Musica: Symphonic!
March 15, 8 p.m., at Carpenter Theatre, Richmond
The Richmond Symphony is joined by aerial acrobats performing gravity-defying feats choreographed to live music performed by the Richmond Symphony. Acrobats – aerialists – contortionists – strongmen – jugglers. All this and more, performing to music above and around the Orchestra.
The Church Hill Irish Festival
March 15 and 16 at 25th and Broad St., Richmond
The celebration of St. Patrick’s Day is in its 39th year, with Irish music, food, activities, and drinks. Listen for bagpipes and other live music, accompanied by Irish and Scottish dancing. Eat corned beef and cabbage, washed down with Irish coffee, Guinness and Tullamore D.E.W. Cheer for the annual parade on Saturday at 10 a.m. or run the Hill Topper 5k on Sunday at 9 a.m.
Country Music Concert – Roberta Lea and The Best Kept Secret Band
March 18, 7 p.m., at The Cultural Arts Center, Glen Allen
The Norfolk native is a strong soulful singer/songwriter making waves in the country music scene with songs like “Too Much of a Woman,” “Make Up Your Mind,” and “Uniform,” an ode to those who serve in the armed forces. She is a Virginia Commission for the Arts Touring Artist and a member of the Black Opry Revue.
