Brazilian Artist Romero Britto Coming to Richmond

March 16th, 2017

Britto’s success blossomed in Miami, Florida, and exploded when Absolut Vodka commissioned his art, as later did public exhibits, automobile companies and other international brands.

“Happiness lies in the pleasure of giving pleasure to others,” says Brazilian-born artist Romero Britto. His vibrant, colorful art has become popular throughout the world. Perhaps of more importance to the artist himself, the art has brought joy to many, through its feel-good images and through the charitable groups he has supported.

Britto’s success blossomed in Miami, Florida, and exploded when Absolut Vodka commissioned his art, as later did public exhibits, automobile companies and other international brands.

“I love what I do. I definitely want to make the best of everything. I definitely want my work to bring a smile to people’s face and to create images of hope and happiness and people can get inspired.”

He found his talent in art when he was young. Growing up, Britto was one of nine children and their family’s finances were tight so he used scraps of paper and art supplies he could find to create art. He sold his first piece for $10 at the age of 14.

Chasen Gallery is bringing a collection of Britto’s paintings and sculpture to Richmond for exhibition and acquisition. The exhibition previews April 21 and opens to the public on Saturday, April 29 with a series of live artist appearances. The gallery will host public exhibitions on Saturday, April 29, from 6-8 p.m. and Sunday, April 30, from 1-4 p.m. RSVP’s required at 804-204-1048 or art@chasengalleries.com.

“Keep enjoying my art, keep being positive, and remain hopeful for the joy that a new day can bring,” Romero Britto says.
