Dirty Dancing Turns 30

Virginia fans of the memorable 1987 film Dirty Dancing, starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, probably recall that much of the movie was filmed at Mountain Lake Lodge, west of Roanoke, off Interstate 81.

In honor of the anniversary, Mountain Lake Lodge is planning special events during four dedicated weekends: June 23-25, July 28-30, Aug. 25-27 and Sept. 15-17. Themed events include a film location tour, showing of the film, lawn games like those in the movie and dancing all weekend. Character dress is encouraged. The finale is a professional dance performance on Saturday evening.

The resort’s gift shop is an authorized retailer of Dirty Dancing merchandise.

Mountain Lake Lodge has announced new amenities and upgrades, including renovations to six historic cabins on Cabin Row, improved wireless infrastructure and cell phone connectivity.
