Shug Lite Beer and Dog Rescue Collaboration
A limited-release beer from Väsen Brewing to raise funds for Richmond SPCA

A local brewery, pet rescue group, and the owners of a dog named Sugar have collaborated on creation of a limited-release beer, Shug Lite. The resulting product supports veterinary medical care for thousands of homeless pets.
Sugar’s owners, Anna Meshejian and Patrick Basloe, earned the opportunity to have their dog featured on a beer label at Richmond SPCA’s annual Fur Ball fundraiser. During a live auction, they placed the winning bid on the collaboration with Väsen Brewing Company.

The collaboration beer is Shug Lite, an American light lager dry-hopped with Lemondrop and Motueka hops to add bright citrus and floral notes to the crisp lager base.
The beer release is set for National Pet Day, April 11, in support of the Richmond SPCA’s Cinderella Fund, which provides veterinary medical care to thousands of homeless pets sheltered by the nonprofit every year.
“The generous support from [Sugar’s] family and everyone at Väsen is providing essential veterinary care to save the lives of dogs and cats in the care of the Richmond SPCA,” said Richmond SPCA Chief Executive Officer Tamsen Kingry. Richmond SPCA serves more than 18,000 pets each year, in its shelter, veterinary hospital, spay and neuter clinic, training programs, and pet retention services. Since becoming no-kill in 2002, the Richmond SPCA has found loving adoptive homes for more than 75,000 dogs and cats.
Beer fans, pet lovers, and well-behaved dogs are invited to the Väsen tasting room to get the new Shug Lite beer on release day and while supplies last, with four packs available for purchase. Dogs are welcome both on the patio and indoors at the Scott’s Addition brewery.
