“You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”
Feb. 6 to 9 at The Cultural Arts Center, Glen Allen
Henrico Theatre Company presents the classic play based on the Charles Schulz comic strip, showing life through the eyes of Charlie Brown and his friends in the Peanuts gang. Musical numbers include “My Blanket and Me,” “Suppertime,” and “Happiness.”
RVA First Fridays Highlights
Galleries and other organization around the region celebrate the arts during Richmond’s First Fridays. This month’s celebrations include:
- RVA First Fridays. Stroll the art galleries along and around Broad Street, plus restaurants, shops, and other organizations. Presenting live music, special events, tastings, and more. Feb. 7, beginning at 5 p.m. – times vary at the many venues around downtown Richmond.
- Much Ado About Something: Nature, Nurture, and Abstraction. Bringing together the natural world’s beauty, life’s nurturing essence, and the evocative power of abstraction in a celebration of resilience, creativity, and transformation. Exhibition opening Feb. 7, 5 to 8 p.m., at The Brickhouse RVA, Richmond.
- First Friday at the Library of Virginia. This month’s themes is on children, with works from local artists and items from the collections. With crafts and performances by SPARC. Feb. 2, 5 to 8 p.m., at the Library of Virginia, Richmond.
- First Fridays. Free museum admission, family-friendly activities, live music, and food trucks. FREE. Feb. 7, 5 to 8 p.m., at the Virginia Museum of History and Culture, Richmond.
- Love & Liberation: The Art of Black Joy & Resilience. Showcasing the works of local artists on the theme, honoring Black History Month. Exhibition runs through Feb. 27. Opening reception on Feb. 7, 6 to 8 p.m., at Chromophore Artspace, Richmond.
- INDESTRUCTIBLE: Big Deal Projects’ First Friday LA Benefit Pop-Up. Over a dozen artists have generously donated artwork and other items, and all proceeds will go to artist-selected organizations doing important relief work in communities throughout Los Angeles in the wake of the recent wildfires. Feb. 7, 6 to 9 p.m., at The Steel Group – Sotheby’s, Richmond.
- After 5 Fridays: Tiara & Andrew. Celebrate Black History Month with the alternative folk-pop duo Tiara & Andrew and special guest artist Charli Ra. FREE. Feb. 7, 6 to 8 p.m., at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond.
- The Burl Show. RVA Urban Wood presents a group exhibition of more than a dozen artists working with burls, the knotty parts of tree trunks that were caused by diseases or stress and can create beautiful works of art. Exhibition runs through March 8. Opening reception, Feb. 7, 7 to 9, at Eric Shindler Gallery, Richmond.
“Streets of Osage, Musical Storyteller Tour”
Feb. 7, 8 p.m., at HATTheatre, Richmond
Presenting “Appalachian Soul,” a mix of soul, R&B, doo-wop, gospel, funk, and folk. It’s an eclectic blend that reflects musician Aristotle Jones’s identity as a Black Appalachian and his roots in Osage. Pay-what-you-can; reservations required; cash only at the door.
Richmond Chocolate, Wine & Whiskey Festival
Two sessions plus VIP. Feb. 8, 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., at Main Street Station, Richmond
Unlimited tasting of chocolates, wine, and craft spirits, plus boozy milkshakes, candy cocktails, spiked hot chocolate, lushy slushies, and fondue bar.
Riedel Glass Pop-Up
Feb. 9, 1 to 3 p.m., at James River Cellars Winery, Glen Allen
