Opening Reception for BUZZ! BUZZ! “Tredegar Iron Works: Richmond’s Foundry on the James.” Author Nathan Madison presents the history of the iconic Iron Works, which supplied armaments for conflicts from the Civil War to Korean War. July 21, noon to 1 p.m., at the American Civil War Museum, Richmond.

Movie in the Park: “Black Panther Wakanda Forever.” Take lawn chair or blanket and flashlight for an outdoor movie, beginning at sunset. Concessions available. July 21, approximately 8 p.m., at Eastern Henrico Recreation Center, Henrico.

Trains, Trucks, Tractors: Titans of Transportation. Feel like a kid again – or grab a kid to tote along – and take in large model train layouts from the Richmond Freelance & Prototype  Model Railroaders. Also wander past Sailor Bob’s TV show train set and several hundred vintage tractors, trucks, cars, tools, toys, and signs that reside at the museum. At the Cannon’s Mouth: Battlefield Relics and the Making of Civil War Memory. Civil War Americans collected and displayed objects of war. Explore the lives of artifacts after they were taken from the field of action in order to understand how they informed the construction of memory. Nurse Blake in the Shock Advised Tour. Finding the comedic twists of being a nurse, this comedian electrifies healthcare workers with laughter. Oct. 10, 8 p.m., at Dominion Energy Center, Richmond.

The Bald and The Beautiful. This live podcast recording stars Trixie and Katya, a pair of grizzled gay ghouls exploring the cultural boundaries of modern beauty through interviews with guests from the beauty industry. Atomic Light Orchestra, Baltimore six-piece Electric Light Orchestra tribute band

Atomic Light Orchestra Coming to RVA. Baltimore six-piece Electric Light Orchestra tribute band performs fan favorite songs. Sept. 3, 7 p.m., at The Tin Pan, Richmond.

Cook County Bluegrass. Continuing the bluegrass vibes that these musicians have been offering to the region since 1998. Sept. 16, 7:30 p.m., at Perkinson Center, Chester.

Tartan Terrors. The Celtic Invasion mixes music energy with traditional folklore, dance, and humor, using classic bagpipes and fiddle, driving drum tones, and signature guitar styles. Nov. 10, 7:30 p.m., at Perkinson Center, Chester.

 

Performing Arts

“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.” The film accompanied by The Broadway Sinfonietta, an all-women, majority women-of-color orchestra, band, and turntables with a scratch DJ. Sept. 26, 7:30 p.m., at Altria Theater, Richmond.

Artrageous. Picasso meets the Blue Man Group in this electrifying art and music circus. Twelve artists, singers, dancers, and musicians combining fine art, live music, singing, dancing, humor, and interaction in a frenzy of movement and color. Audience participation encouraged. Oct. 13, 7:30 p.m., at Perkinson Center, Chester.

Let It Snow! The holiday music tradition from the Richmond Symphony presents carols, classics, and holiday favorites, with a visit from Soul Santa. Nov. 25, 8 p.m., and Nov. 26, 3 p.m., at Carpenter Theatre, Richmond.

“The Legend of the Poinsettia.” The Latin Ballet presents the story based on a Mexican legend in a blend of music, dance, spiritual reverence, joy, and laughter. Tickets go on sale Sept. 5. Jan. 5 to 7, 2024, at Perkinson Center, Chester.
