Virginia Spirits: Filibuster Distillery
Featuring the Dual Cask Bourbon
It’s Virginia Spirits Month, which means “It’s 5 o’clock for 30 days!” Need a distillery guide? We can help with that.
Interested in our state’s boozy history? We can help with that too.
Since their operations began in Washington, D.C., not far from the U.S. Capitol, the owners of Filibuster Distillery thought it only appropriate to name their company after something the locals could relate to. Led by the Dilawri family, the business now distills in the Shenandoah Valley, utilizing fresh, local ingredients from the area.
“Grains and water are the foundation of a really great whiskey, which is why Filibuster Distillery is nestled in the valley of the Shenandoah,” Sid Dilawri, master distiller, explains. “The Shenandoah valleys contain incredible limestone-filtered water that Filibuster uses throughout their whiskey production. These valleys also have incredible local farms that harvest high-quality grains.”
So, distillers guide each spirit through a creative and unique blending process, finalizing its pre-bottled resting place into one-of-a-kind casks.
And, variety? Absolutely. Their spirits range from crisp gins to hearty whiskeys, bourbons, and ryes – most of which boast a number of awards.
“The distinctive flavor offers fans an experience that is far from ordinary,” says Dilawri. “This premium collection of both whiskey and gins can be enjoyed equally neat, on the rocks, or as a base to a classic or contemporary cocktail.”
Further, the women- and minority-owned business launched in 2013, aiming to create a fine product that could be enjoyed by those of any political affiliation.

Featured Product: Dual Cask Bourbon
The four-year age comes across clearly and dearly in the first sip of this carefully crafted spirit. Built with corn, rye, and barley, the sweetness hits in all the right places: like smooth, pleasant, subtle adult honey. Enjoy strong notes of vanilla, caramel, and tobacco spices, enhanced as it sits.
Subsequently, this spirit is well decorated, with gold medal awards from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, ADI Judging of Craft Spirits, and the China Wine & Spirits Award. Likewise, it even received a 92 from Wine Enthusiast.
At 90 proof, Filibuster’s flagship bourbon is dangerously delicious. It’s the kind of bourbon that will, well – keep you talking. And talking. And talking …
