What's Booming: Winter Solstice, Poetry, and Just a Few More Christmas Movies
Sure, blistering winds, freezing temperatures and a weekend full of snow have taken over our city. But winter hasn’t even arrived yet! Welcome it with gusto at the Winter Solstice Celebration. Poems, carols, sing-alongs, bonfires, and trying not to complain about the weather. Thursday, Dec. 21 from 5-7 p.m. on Belle Isle.
Put on your finest beret and head to Café Zata for their monthly Poetry Night. Sharing is welcome, listening is just fine, and inspiration is inevitable. Friday, Dec. 22 at 7 p.m.
For all of you who don’t have anything to do on Christmas, don’t celebrate Christmas, or just don’t feel like cooking Christmas breakfast: swing by the Weinstein Jewish Community Center for Breakfast at the J. Pancakes, eggs, and friendly faces. Monday, Dec. 25 from 9-11 a.m.
Get your final fill of Christmas movies before they go away forever (I mean, for the next 11 months). See Polar Express at the Henrico Theatre on Friday, Dec. 22 at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Or get your annual fill of Jimmy Stewart with It’s a Wonderful Life at the Byrd Theatre on Sunday, Dec. 24 and Monday, Dec. 25. Or just stay home and watch the TBS marathon of A Christmas Story.
Christmas is technically over, but the glimmery lights are still around! The Holiday Glitter Walking Tour, presented by The Valentine of course, will take participants on an historic tour of those illustrious Fan houses. And what better time to do so than when they’re all covered in Christmas lights? Tuesday, Dec. 26 through Wednesday, Dec. 27 from 6-7:30 p.m. both days.
